The factory manual shows/describes the procedure to check the big end bearings; it’s easy to do. Basically you measure how much you can rock the arms from cam side to primary side with them at the top of the stroke, then you pull straight up on the rods and push down. The first test can be over the spec a little and be alright, it the up/down test can have zero play.

yeah I did a quick check on the rear rod and seemed like a lot of side-to-side play and no up/down, but I'll look at it again today...now that I have the pistons off the rods...the front wrist pin came right out and I had to press the rear one out with a c-clamp, not sure if that means anything--oh and I scraped a little metal out of the wrist pin hole because it just wouldn't clear with hand pressure like the front one did...well anyway the pistons and junkola anyway

When you are checking for up and down play, wash the oil out of the bearings first. You will get a much more accurate feel.

The clearance, if memory serves is .0005. You can't feel that unless you're really good or maybe superman or something.
