maybe I am of European imprinting... but like Cal... I don't understand the meaning to get much trouble for build a rigid... a bike that behave worse quite everywhere... but perhaps in the desert like said in previous post...
let alone swap a standard fork for a springer...
too much sacrifice for fashion goal

P.S. by what i have heard... in many sites in US... roads are patched worse than in my country... I did not believed that... but then I had seen pictures

by the way...
IMHO much better invest in a cafe

I already own a 1996 Ducati SSCR900 and I've owned plenty of Cafe racer type bikes, they bore me. My Ducati is a bred racehorse looking for a race track. On roads where I live a person can fall asleep on these roads when riding a smooth riding bike.

I have already done all of the racing and risky adventurism I need to do. Now I want to ride a slow bike fast (again), I have done that before and I very much enjoy it!

Lastly, I will not be using any kind of Springer front suspension. Perhaps later (2 or 3 years later) I may attempt to make my own Girder ... which is not the same as a Springer.

This is a Girder, one similar to what I might make later.

I put a weld-on hardtail (4"stretch) on a '78 Yamaha 650 that weighed around 525lbs. When I took it to the dump to weigh it, it weighed around 340lbs. Stock forks, 2 gal. Sportster tank, Flat rear fender. You won't believe how much stuff you end up stripping off, to get a clean look. Had to run 8lbs of air in the rear tire because anymore than that, it would bounce like a basketball, if you hit a slight heave in the pavement.
