Two completely different cams, height is only one of the equation.

Hi! I dont completely agree. Both would works with stock heads and CR. Both have early Intake valve close timing.

It will be an interesting comparison, if you look on the hammer website at there Dyno page. Your see a Dyno chart from the UK on an XR1200 with headwork and 1250 breaking 100hp with the redshirt 575 and it's strong through the range. I wonder if a sporty would come out as strong? As I would consider this cam, the XR has downdraught injection I think which will Aid in better performance.
I would say the redshift would beat the jackhammer but only a Dyno comparison will prove this either way.

I have no plans to do a controlled dyno comparison test between the two, because these two cam grinds don't really compete with each other hardly at all. The RS cams in general are just not that popular in XL's due to their high cost. We really only sell them into the XR and XB platforms, because RS is the only game in town for those applications. We don't offer HP cams for the XR and XB because the volume is too small to justify the up front costs. So these are two cam grinds that really don't compete hardly at all, they're in two different markets by and large.

That said, I can offer my thoughts on them.

The RS575's have a 38 degree intake close point and 46 degrees of overlap.

The HP570's have a 32 degree intake close point and 56 degrees of overlap.

The intake close timing is the primary driver of the rpm range of the cams. Earlier is going to help on the bottom end at the expense of the top, later is going to move it up the rpm range at the expense of the bottom. So the RS575's are biased a little higher up the rpm range, although both intake close points are pretty mild in the grand scheme of things.

Overlap can make more or less power at any rpm, depending on what the exhaust is doing. If the exhaust pulls at a given rpm, then more overlap is going to help cylinder fill and thus torque and thus power. If the exhaust pushes back at a given rpm, then more overlap is going to hurt cylinder full and thus torque and thus power.

46 degrees of overlap degrees (RS575) is a middle of the road street performance number.

56 degrees of overlap (HP570) is a more aggressive level of overlap, something you'd expect to see in a hot street grind or mild race grind.

So the HP570's are going to be more sensitive to the exhaust, which can be good or bad depending on how the exhaust behaves.

Both of these cam sets are designed with the same basic philosophy: early intake close timing to build more cylinder pressure and maintain bottom end power, and making up for the top end you'd otherwise lose by adding overlap. The HP570's just take the concept farther is all, with even earlier intake close timing and even more overlap than the RS575's.

One other difference in the grinds is that the HP570's are designed with Andrews' quiet lobe profile. The ramps and transitions are not as aggressive, to keep the noise down, at the expense of some area under the curve. We thought it was a good trade-off.

I really think the end result is going to be heavily influenced by the exhaust used. I can see how some exhausts will perform better with one vs. the other.
