Default the nosecone resurrection

hi! I need to open my 2009 sportster nosecone to install a dynaS tipe ignition. I want to do this to start the motor with the new V-Twin kick starter kit for 2004-up sporties. but ignitions based on crank sensor, like Altmann, doesn't work with a kicker.
I read an old discussion about converting from efi to carb, and someone said a way to change ignition was to just install a nosecone ignition.

http://www.chopcult.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23439

I think I have the complete parts list:
- cam modification to accept rotor (as posted here. what a pity vulcan ignition is out of stock...
http://vulcanworks.net/Sportster-Cam...p-p-17177.html
- 2003 cam cover
- timing rotor
- complete mechanical advance kit
- new coil is necessary?
- ignition module or at list points
- but without the timing hole I did not understand how to time the bike.
could someone help me??
thanks

You can pull the primary cover, mount a timing wheel to the crankshaft and find tdc for the front cylinder and figure out your btdc base on that.

BTDC= before top dead center, otherwise known as “advance”.

A degree wheel is a circle with degrees of the circle marked on it. 360* etc.

ok, more or less I think I've understood. everything you have mentioned has to be installed on the right side, under the nosecone, correct?
sorry but the Internet page of motorsport is not available to europeans, but I think I have to buy the complete advance kit of a 2003 sporty and delete crank sensor

Hello.

No, what I mentioned is only for setting your timing. It’ll mount temporarily to the crank on the left side of the motor under the primary cover to give you a reference of where your spark should fire before top dead center on the compression stroke. You’ll set your ignition module in the nose cone based on this btdc advance position.

The nose cone would hold the advance/rotor/module you mention.

If you are upgrading your cams, as in a Hammer 570 ect, they will come tapped for the rotor bolt. No need for the Vulcan service.

The Dyna S needs 5ohm coils, so yes, a new coil.

With regards to the cam cover, make sure the oil passages align and are the same. I had to hunt a bit and don’t remember if it was an ‘03 or ‘04 I found that matches.

Cheers

ok, that's clear! in any case I think to be helped by a dealer/expert would be fine. what a pity the kicker doesn't work with crank sensor based ignition, I think a daytona twintec tcfi4 is a lot more than dynaS
