On any extended ride a full set of good rain gear is a must. That way the weather Gods don't dictate to you, just keep on riding.

One word.....Tyvek....$12 will get ya full breathable rain gear that weighs in at ounces, it will last a fair amount of time. DuPont makes it and a lot of places sell it.

Yep, only if I get caught in it...then I keep riding til I dry out (isolated showers only!)
A good amount of rain does wash the road, though, and good grip can be had...if the tyres are good...allowing a faster average speed to be maintained.

No need mostly out here. Over pass and patience is my friend. Large Trash bags , pocket knife, bungee cord in a pinch.
sportsterpaul knows what I mean.

I get caught once in a while. I find I don't melt when soaking wet. I also find that I am dry again in about 20 miles up the road. Feeling like a swamp cooler to boot.

Riding in the Rain is not as cold down here as up north.

Edit: this miindset of mine carries over on cross country trips. Other members who have met me when I rode to South Carolina meet and greet can attest to my rain gear. None. Cuz the preferred way to drive in the desert is to ride wet.

I'm not geared for rain and don't plan to be.
That said I've been caught a few times.

My third Iron Butt Saddle Sore, around Lakes Erie and Ontario, the first 900 miles after departing Port Huron were rain. 1/4” hail passing Toronto then exiting the toll Road in Toledo the sun came out and temperatures soared. Stripped off the rain gear and got sunburn on the return leg to Port Huron. Yeah, I ride in rain, no biggy, go do what you gotta do.

I ride in all kinds of rain and wet roads. Just the way it is in Southwest Florida. No rain gear. Been a little better since I started wearing a Full Face on my commute to work. My wife has a towel and dry clothes waiting on me at the front door when the forecast scattered showers. I got soaked twice last week and wet roads 4 times.

10 years in the great Pacific Northwet, with no cage in sight. Yeah, I ride in the rain. I prefer sun, but rain is just a thing. I love the question "What happens when it rains?!?" The answer is invariably "I get wet, and get over it."
I do try to draw the line at frozen crap on the roads. I've ridden in 15 degrees, dry, but if there's ice on the roads, I try not to. Still have a couple times. Gets /really/ interesting that does...
