I'm in agreement with jharback and Decman (and others). Explain to them why you don't want the party and go out/meet up with everyone as you feel comfortable.

Or have one a week or two after you get back. Give you a chance to decompress and adjust first.

It really is up to you.

Just remember, the party is as much for you as it is them. The girls missed you with all their hearts and they want to share the joy of your safe return with all those affected.

But still, it is up to you.

I also agree with Ranchero's advixce.

After both Iraq and Afghanistan everyone wanted the same thing but me, I feel you. If people want to spend time with you they'll make it on whatever terms you create. A large group of people asking how war was isn't the company your looking for after war if you've seen combat. If you were a POG I don't see the big deal, party at home like the party POGs have overseas lol

That's a hard one. My war was a long time ago and I wasn't offered the party option. I don't like crowds and I don't like those that are not close to me asking about the war. If your family and friends know you well then they will understand either way you decide. Your feelings are normal.

I had a party when I went to Vietnam. I didn't get one when I came back. The girl that threw the party for me when I went was not there for me when I came back. Appreciate the ones who waited for you. It hasn't been easy on them either.

Difficult one, I've never been in the Army but I dislike parties, even as a kid. My parents & sister were planning a 50th birthday bash for me but I just didn't want to go I get anxiety. You could always show up for an hour & have a friend call you with an"emergency"
