Default HD Tachometer on Nightster?

HD offers the kit for a speedo and tachometer for the 883 Sportsters. I found an older thread about this but no real answer was found. Is this compatable with the Nightster? Is the redline different for the 1200 vs the 883?

a-hole answer: nightsters and sportsters are completly different wont fit.

real answer. if it isn't listed for a nightster specificaly than it probably won't be a direct bolt on. the electrical will work. i looked in the 2009 accessory cat and the tach kit i saw mounted a full size tach beside the spedo. that one could be adapted by changing your top clamp to one like pn 56115-95 (stock black upper bar clamp for a 883r) and maybe a few other small parts.

ya the hd tach kit is listed for xl883 and xl883l. those motorcycles feature a spedo bracket that can be removed from the top clamp. the hd kit supplies all the parts nessisary to convert those bikes to the speedo/tach setup as stock on the 1200r.

it would not bolt up to a nightster or an iron or a 1200l or a 1200c because those motorcycles feature top clamps with intigrated spedo mounts.

btw porky: double post dumbass

You can always get the Microtach+ from Speedway Instruments. Works excellent. There are a ton of threads on it and have yet to see a person not happy that they bought it. It's a lot cheaper than buying the tach and mount from HD and you can keep the clean look of the single guage if that's what you prefer.

In order to make the H-D tach kit work on a Nightster, you would have to buy a plain handlebar clamp like the ones that come on the base 883's. Then you could use the double gauge bracket. It's the same setup that used to come on the 1200R's.
I have another suggestion for you though, Dakota Digital. I just bought their plug-and-play tachometer/speedometer combo and it's awesome. The website has all the information. For the record, I think it's totally worth the money.

The 1200S has a tach speedo combo as well, probably can't get it though, I always run into the problem of they don't make it anymore, or it won't work on the S model.

That has got to be the baddest gauge I've seen. I'm down for that, when it comes out.
