I posted pics on the Lets See Your Nightster thread. Works really well. No visual problems both daytime or nighttime. Also has a digital tach, cylinder head temp, and more. Worth the money. Dakota Digital makes a good product. Construction is great.

I dont know what you mean by older model, but on a 2004 model, the tach signal is actually a databus signal; pin #2 from the back of the speedo colored light green with a violet stripe. Also on the same plug is your main power (brn/gry), accesory (or/wht), ignition (or) and ground (blk) at pin #7

Been thinking about this mod, but the bracket would be mounting to the eyebrow mount holes, which are now empty since I converted to a 7" sidemount headlight. If I can't get the cost down below the $280 or whatever HD charges for the kit though I may end up with a microtach.

Of course I got this idea about three weeks after retrofitting a bar clamp/speedo bracket from the 48 onto mine...so I'm already $100 into that.

So I know what numbers I need to put the pins in, but how is the connector laid out? IE what hole in the connector corresponds to the pin I need to insert? I have been piecing together my own tach parts because the dealership is ridiculous.

Wired up the tach 09 Iron like the
Pin 1 OR-ignition
Pin 2 LGN/V -serial data
Pin 6 O/W-Accessory
Pin 7 BK-ground

Now I have Bus er on the speedo. It still starts up, but tach isn't working.....any ideas?

So it appears you also need a battery feed as well. Accessory will not work. Pin 5 needs the brown/gray wire.

Why does the 09 manual have 6 different wiring diagrams for the instruments?
