there were more customs in the showrooms in those days, hence more sales. i think the market was more for chrome than dual discs. i haven't researched the production numbers for '04-06, but i'm sure they made (and sold) more stylish bikes than the more functional r's.

I made it a point to get a rubber mount with a Carb. So many parts added on a FI 2007 & up. I like the idea of a simple timing only computer and no fuel pump to fail.;

It would be good to know production numbers:

2004:
• Engine is rubber mounted
• Trap door transmission eliminated (cases must now be split to access transmission).
• Oil tank is mounted further under the seat
• Seat height is lowered by an inch
• Rear tire width increased to 150 mm
• Custom models get 4.5 gallon gas tanks
• New air cleaner cover
• Brake calipers, master cylinder, switch housings and handgrips replaced, now exclusive to Sportster models.
2005:
• Swing arm & rear wheel re-designed to accommodate 1″ rear axle.

2004
* 1200 Models get Buell Spec Heads and W Cams

Models:
XL883
XL883C Custom
XL1200R Roadster
XL1200C Custom

2005
* Added clear optic reflector headlight
* Last year for straight cut gears in transmission
* Last year for silver motor on 1200R
* Larger diameter shifter shaft and new primary cover
Models:
XL883
XL883L Low
XL883C Custom
XL883R
XL1200R Roadster
XL1200C Custom

2006
* Last year for Carbs
* First year for black motor on 1200R

Models:

XL883L Low
XL883C Custom
XL883R
XL1200L Low

Its running about what I thought:
883 ( 897 total)
1200 (1,366 total)

More balanced between the 883 models and a clear bias to the Custom for the 1200 bikes.

Much better now, since I got rid of the custom riser!!
Just need to clean the bike at some point.

Much better look than your previous pic. I like that you kept the blinkers on the bars!
