The main differences I know of are 2" shorter forks, 2" shorter shocks and a shorter jiffy stand. Bars, seat, etc are cosmetic.
The big difference is HALF the suspension travel. Try that in Ohio. My 2002 rode like a brick. Expansion bumps loosened my fillings.
A guy at work had a 2002 custom and he wanted to go lower and I wanted to go up.
We put the bikes up and swapped forks, shocks and stands.
He got to low ride and I got a much more enjoyable ride.
Still not great but much improved.
It rides so much better with my wife on the back.
Maybe I just need to put on 100 pounds . . .

Like already stated... suspensions and jiffy shorter...
I had a beautiful one bought brand new since july 2001 till december 2016
85k kms
Sometimes i miss her... but suspensions were crap...
i am 175 cm tall... and a standard one was the way to go

From the label that´s a Hugger, but with 13 rear suspension and a few things changed by the last 28 Years it´s only an old Sporty

What brand shocks do you have? And the fork gaiters, are they Harley or aftermarket?

John

John
That are cheap YSS shocks (much better than stock or cheap chinese junk) and the fork gaiters are aftermarket.

I've been wondering this also. For my 95, Over on Sportsterpedia it seems that they share all the same parts, except the damper rod, 45925-94 at 9.5" on the standard, 45938-92 at 7.5" on the Hugger.
Springs are same length at 21.5" (different part numbers) coils, 53 on std 47 0n hugger.
So in theory all I need to do is replace the damper rod, whichh would restore the length, albeit with a stiff spring, which could be sorted with progressive springs.
What do you all think?
