Question Speedo/Tach combo for '04 1200R

The HD #70900274 is a plug and play speedo/tach combo for the '04-'06 sportster Except the R models. I know this is because the R comes with a tach. BUT I hated the look of the 2 gauges sticking up over the bars. I chucked the tack and relocated the speedo. Now I find that I miss the tach. Anyone put a combo unit on a '04 R model? Any ideas on how I can make this work? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Forum!

I guess you just need to change to a single gauge housing?

It looks to me like the 2004 1200r tach has all the wires connected to the same wires / pins as the speedo.

Here is the 2004 wiring diagrams -

If your looking at aftermarket speedo/tach combinations you can look at Dakota digital or koso.
I have had both and the koso is better. The Dakota digital i had would lag and I also had to send it back to the company 3 times to have it fixed because the screen kept shorting out from getting wet in the rain and then the control module went bad. But I had an older model and out of the few on here that had the same model i was the only one to have problems with it. There are a bunch on here that have the new style and I have not heard anything bad about them. For me the koso worked better. The tach does not lag like the Dakota digital did for me I have not had any issues with it in the rain. It is a little bit more difficult to wire up and he hardest part is calibrating the speed.

Thank You! looks like I can slap it right in. I was worried I'd have to rewire the speedo connector swapping out some of the pins from the tach. If I can just plug in the tach connector, SWEET! (took me a whole day to swap out switches and run wires through the handlebars, not great with wiring) Thanks again!
