Question On to the next issue,..... Guess there will always be a "next"...

Waiting for parts to get here,..... Been a week and a haft now. Decided to check the back wheel, bearings, brake, chain etc. Got the chain off, cleaned and oiled, and it checks out at less than the 1" wear, so according to the shop book it's still OK. Likely an original chain, were Diamond chains from the factory? Brake linings look good, likely have been replaced as the steel shoes are black and the springs are shiny black, so also good.
Now, the not so good. The aluminum brake pale has been rubbing on the aft muffler! Geez,... The muffler needs to be moved outboard to make a bit of clearance, and now I realize there is a missing muffler clamp. There is a mount for a clamp at mid-muffler, but no clamp. Not a show stopper but sad as would have been an easy fix, but probably not noticed. The REAL issue is the sprocket. I was under the impression that early Sportsters had a one piece drum and sprocket. Is that correct? This one has a sprocket that is held on the drum with many small rivets. the sprocket is loose, and some of the rivets are missing, but all of them are loose. The sprocket will shift on the drum back and forth a bit. is this a common issue or a owner repair gone bad? Not sure how to approach the issue, other than simply buy a replacement, assuming they can be found.
Also just found out that the Sportster foot shirt lever has a separate Toe piece, not a one piece chunk of metal like my Brit bikes. So looks like I will have to order that bit next....... I would have thought the folks on the phone might have suggested I consider that, but no clue from them. Delays will give me time for this other stuff I guess. Old bike Fun!

I would recommend you start a "build tread" where you could ask all of your questions without having a pile of discussions to monitor

Thanks for that link! Obviously I'm not the 1st to see this. I'll be following that procedure on this bike.
Also, that thread explained the open holes I thought were missing rivets. Good to know.
