actually the original widow maker was the mach 500 not the 750.
big issues was crappy brakes and lousy handling.
the 750 was an improved machine but in most cases, the 500 could smoke it.
another issue was young ones were getting it with NO training nor supervision from parents, nor dealers for that matter. so hence, laws for mandated training were made and a dealer could not sell a machine till the course was completed.
if you think the 900 was fast, well suzuki had a 750 that would tear it up, there were two versions and the only outside tell was the valve adjuster caps round vs square.

imo these are good memories...
tried a fully stock bike...
tons of torque at any revs
scream only at high revs
she scared the crap out of me as well...

in these bikes the limits are inside your brain... they not rely on the bike...
by the way... that is a bike for experienced riders... since no TC and no electronic gadgets...

but these are recommendations for youngsters... sure not for us... as we could say... mature riders...

i speak for myself now... i pay respect when i'm on a bike whose limits are long far over mine ...

The Kawi triples are big money now. I remember when the Z1-900 and then the KZ900 came out, nobody wanted the triples. Now they are high priced collectors bikes.

The 500 had a peaky power band. When the power came in, it was angry and violent. The 750 was a lot more even tempered

The 500 was not faster than the 750, that is some folklore spread by magazine writers. The 750 was not proportionally faster than the 500, but it would run 12’s in the 1/4 to the 500’s 13’s. The 750 had a lot more top end if you were brave enough. (Pee Wee Gleason ran a 12 second flat 1/4 with a stock H2 750, witnessed and verified)

Had rides on a 250 triple, a Yamaha RD250 would outrun it. One of my biggest frighteners on a bike was riding a KH500 triple when I hit a damp patch round a bend. the back end stepped out dirt track style then when the tyre gripped it tried to spit me off. The KH500 had a "detuned" engine and "improved" handling compared to the earlier bikes. It was still a beast!

the 750 could do more on the top but at street level, all the 500's around at the time were smoking the 750's on the street.
off subject but:
had a friend with a twinjet 100 that would do 120mph, pretty sweet for two pistons around a 50 cent piece.
the fastest i have been on a two cycle was a 305 you-maya-make-it.
