ReddTigger is right. I would also wonder about the o-rings around the locating sleeves with head gaskets that don't need them. Another common issue.

If you have the same crappy paper base gaskets as my 1991, you might want to upgrade to the Cometic metal gaskets. When I did my 1250 upgrade, the rocker and base gaskets crumbled like Egyptian mummies. I was extra careful not to have a piece of King Tut fall into the crankcase.
I had some base gasket weeping for many years, practically since fairly new. Now, with the metal base gaskets, not the least sign of oil.
