Default "S" model specific Q&A

I want a place that we "S" owners can subscribe to so we can ask and answer questions specific to our model, and have them archived. We don't need a whole new section, just a thread that is easy to find and we can handle it from there. Most times if there is something specific we need it will be days before any other "S" owner sees it due to it being buried in all the other threads. I highjacked our "Who owns..." thread just so someone would see my question. I know a lot of us have it saved to welcome the new guys so it was more likely to be seen there. Thanks in advance.

Now for anyone posting here, if it's specific to the XL1200S model then it is fair game. Ask away but please stay on topic to keep the thread for what it is, information.

I'll move my Q&A over here now.

Where it all started.... http://xlforum.net/forums/s...&postcount=205

The bike is wired right so now what? I had the whole bike apart fixing the head so where do I start? It turns over but won't start.

Redd, not able to say what is considered "best", but this link here has some real good info...

Post #7 by Steelworker includes some leads on aftermarket ignitions. I wasnt sure that I liked the idea of giving up the map sensor and running the voes in order to utilize these programmable units, but I dont know if its that big a deal or not...

If you find anything to add please share

I replaced my ignition module and wires on my 1200S a while back and shared the experience here

http://xlforum.net/forums/s...d.php?t=310497

There is some helpful info I think, especially finding good wires that fit our bikes.

fortunately for me, I don't have a map sensor

According to their respective companies.. I sent an email with the same question to Daytona and Dynatek.

Daytona Twin Tec: You can use our Model 1005 with an appropriate coil, but it is not a plug-in. As far as we know, no direct plug-ins are available.

And Dynatek.Ignition wise, the Dyna 2000i would be the best choice for an ignition which will allow you the opportunity to tune for your motors combination. However, coil selection is more difficult on a Sportster due to space limitations. You will either have to adapt a custom dual coil mount for a pair of dual output coils, or, attemp to fit our DC6-4 Twin Fire coil. The DC6-4 coil is slightly larger than stock, but contains two (2) coils within that will allow for single fire operation in a dual plug head machine. It also uses the stock type mounting bolt pattern.

Default Possible source of High RPM Sport Ignition modules

This was posted on the Yahoo HDXL1200S group in January, 2009:

These modules have all been purged from Harley dealers everywhere but
there are 67 (last inventory count) at Vintage Parts in Beaver Dam
877-846-8243. But they will only sell to franchised hog dealers. It is

Ugh! I don't envy you. I guess the easy, basic stuff first, air, fuel, fire, and timing. Then pushrods in correct holes, cam timing, etc.
Wishing you well, hope you can get it together soon as spring is going to be here someday.
Sooner for some of us.
