I was never stationed there but, I did spend a number of days off and on back in the late sixties. I thought it was a great place. Beautiful beaches and friendly women (and very inexpensive ). All the Marines I knew that were stationed there, loved it. Of course, if they were stationed there, they weren't in Viet Nam with the rest of us.

Got into many fights at the Animal Pit and got my plumbing flushed frequently. I remember there was a place called Suck a Hotchy Alley where you supposedly could get a BJ for a quarter.

Guess things have changed.

I think it was "Sakahachi", but yeah, who could forget that place.

My favorite place was the "Wakamatsu" restaurant on or near Gate 2 street outside Kadena. They (like most Okinawan's) were insulted with the A signs, so they didn't have one. We used to go there all the time anyway, and got rousted one night by the Marine cops. We went back later, and they ushered us into a back room and set us up with all fresh food and wouldn't take our money. Great friends, and I still know one of the waitresses from there (she now owns a restaurant in Van Nuys, and it is by far the best Sushi anywhere).
