Default Painting a Buell Cyclone Gas Tank

Hello All,

It's been a little while since I've posted. The Buell has been running great so I haven't needed any advice. I would like to get the tank painted. Is there anything special that the painter needs to do or know about painting these plastic tanks?

Thanks Dave

Just painted mine with the silver base color and am working on rivets and seams. In prep, I did a lot of research and came to the conclusion that I needed to get every drop of gas out and even left a towel in the tank overnight to absorb all the moisture I could. I then used a propane torch to bring the chemical : injection mold release agent to the surface, then wiped it off with 100 percent alcohol. Then sanded the decals off with 300 grit, then sanded the whole thing with 600. What a job!!, After a while it seems like you're doing a car, 5 gallons!!! Needless to say, I skipped the bottom. Don't leave the torch in one place, keep it moving. ANd , oh yeah. It's very conducive to aircraft noseart decals because of the shape. Have fun.
