see now I changed to a 48 from a 45 and it seems to run more smooth. I think they say a shovel runs better when it is a little rich.

Stock 42/180 with drags and a modified backplate on the stock AC. Darn near as good as some stage 1 ACs and leaves me the room to hide the breather mod.
All I changed in the carb was the needle to an N65C from an '88 XL. No need to rejet for most all stage 1 exhaust and intake upgrades.

I can only speak to bikes around here on Oklahoma, and surrounding altitudes, but I almost ALWAYS leave the main alone, and go up one on the slow speed jet. So a 40 in an 883 gets a 42, and a 42 in a 1200 gets a 45.

People often don't think about the fact that when you richen the slow speed circuit, you richen everything, as it continues to pass fuel when the main comes on.

I actually seldom replace the 42. I just drill it with a Snap-On jet drill. I want to say that it is a number 117. I will go check out in the shop if anybody is interested.

When I do replace jets, I only use real Keihin jets. The aftermarket ones are not consistent.

Seems I underestimated the performance of the Dragtron II AC with the K&N filter and was a little lean on wot so I stepped it up to a 185 main. Had a very occasional carb fart playing with the throttle with theclutch in too so so i put a 45 then a 46 pilot and it's dead on now.
So 46/185 and the N65C need from the '88 sportster .

89 Sportster 1200 conversion. SE pipes with torque baffles and K&N air filter. 45/175 and no needle shim. Runs well with little warm up time.

99 1200 S soon to be a 99 1275 S I dont remember what the jets are it did have SE Ignition box, SE staggered duals and a SE K&N fllter and a dyno jet Kit with a grooved needle when i bought the bike... I changed to a Cone Engineering 2:1 when the original pipes rotted off... I did have to raise the needle half a groove IIRC to take the lean spot out of lower midrange the 2:1 created. runs good its a touch rich through the range but ok with dark tan pipe color in the hot weather down here... I'll start a notebook when i do the 1275 as I will have to do some timing and Jetting changes for sure...
