Thanks, I just have a better technique the other way, standing on the left peg to set compression.

My '68 BSA was like that. Didn't realize the older Sportsters were also.

grab a friend and a floor jack.
Have the friend hold the bike vertical, put floor jack under it and remove shocks.
Let it down to where you want it and grab a tape measure.
