luckily I have a friend who works in a machine shop so I have decided to make a 3/8" plate that will go between the mount and the controls. I am also adding a hole straight through the main extension tube on the controls so I can bolt that part to the new support plate as well. That is where the bend happened. I am aware that this will cause the need for longer bolts, but I figure some grade 8 bolts will do just fine. I will post some pics when I get some progress.

Mick, you said you modified the front lower engine mounts and installed the 86 to 03 HD style forward controls. I am unable to find the photos in your gallery. Can you forward me the photos. I am trying to convert my '81.

Awesome to see and re-live this project. I should have given more credit to the man at the machine shop. He was very good, very understanding, a real grandfather type of good man - he made sure that I measured everything precisely. He sent me home a couple of times to check before he made the cut.

I'm glad it got preserved. Too many informative projects don't.
Oh, if you want to add anything to that article Mick, just say the word.
The pics can also be linked into a post on the forum if the need arises.
