Just got off the phone to Mikunioz. They don't know.

So, now I'm wondering. Is the VM38 marginal for a 1000cc Sportster ?

Does anyone out there know what they flow ?

Larger (VM40, 44) can be made to work, but the lower speeds will be less "linear", the circuit timing will be different (cruising will depend more on needle jet than needle position than a 38), the rich pilot, slide and needle jet may ruin mileage (no accelerator pump).

Much to my disgust, I found long ago that many "rules" that appear arbitrary were, in fact, made to accommodate a friend or handicap a rival.
A fast KR at Bonneville uses a Weber DCOE....

handicap a rival.

My governing body, Motorcycling Australia, initially refused to grant me a log book for my first sidecar. When I asked "what rule does it not comply with ?" they replied, "An Ironhead powered sidecar has never ever raced in Australia. Therefor, your bike does not represent a bike of the period".

There is no rule that states that. They then told me the frame and engine had to be from the same manufacturer. And of course that would have ruled out about half of all Period 3 bikes and all sidecars. But no such rule existed.

They simply just didn't want an Ironhead out there racing. Not British you know. Said in a high pitched poofter Pommie voice.

Oh ! Apologies to any of our British friends.

Ferrous,….should be no need for apologies for putting a sidecar on a Sportster…..we’ve forgiven you long ago for that…..!

Well, I do really feel like I should apologize for hobbling an Ironhead with a sidecar. Like putting a cart on a race horse.

But like so many other mediocre racers I always figure I can beat everyone else if I just have more HP than them.

And it's worked a treat for me !
