Thanks for the responses. Why I was asking is because several states have explicitly declared their legality in certain situations.

Minnesota
"A blue dot on the tail light of up to one inch is legal. 169.64 subd. 4 (c)"
https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/ots/mms...gulations.aspx

Washington State
"A street rod or custom vehicle may use blue dot taillights for stop lamps, rear turning indicator lamps, rear hazard lamps, and rear reflectors. "
https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.37.5185

Idaho
"Nothing herein shall prohibit the display on any vehicle thirty (30) years old or older of tail lamps containing a blue or purple insert lens not to exceed one (1) inch in diameter, provided the tail lamps otherwise comply with the requirements of this section."
https://legislature.idaho.gov/statut...H9/SECT49-906/

I cannot find anything in my home state that gives me the same assuredness.

This was thanks to former Governor Jesse Ventura. He thought that blue dots "being illegal" was a stupid law and a big waste of taxpayers money to enforce.

You can have a 1" chrome medallion in center of a taillight but a "bluedot" is illegal? The thing I hate is when you cross state lines and it's illegal in THAT state!
If you are looking for state codes on bluedots, it's probably listed under some sort of obstruction of sight code. Here in ND, you can get cited for too much dirt or mud covering your taillights and technically, all those taillights that are clear or smoked aren't red under our codes.(outdated)

Maybe you could just put "BUST ME" on the back of your jacket in big neon blue letters? You get away with a LOT more staying under the radar. But if you crave attention, have at it.

I don't let the sons of bit#hes get at me.

Many LEO's do not know the law. And no gain in arguing with them

No man, but not LAF either. I also know to roll back and putt by if needed. Not just for 5-O, but for moms and baby carriages, dog walkers, etc...

I have friend who got a ticket for stock pipes being too loud... it all depends.

Two more states where I found what looks like definitive answers

Nevada

"NRS 486.261  Tail lamps.
1.  Except as otherwise provided in subsection 3, every motorcycle or moped must be equipped with at least one tail lamp mounted on the rear, which, when lighted as required by NRS 486.011 to 486.381, inclusive, emits a red light plainly visible from a distance of 500 feet to the rear.
2.  The tail lamp must be wired to be lighted whenever the head lamp is lighted.
3.  The tail lamp on a motorcycle may contain a blue insert that does not exceed 1 inch in diameter."

https://www.leg.state.nv.us/nrs/NRS-484D.html

Utah (inspection rules)

"...issue a rejection inspection certificate when: a stop lamp has a blue dot taillight."

https://rules.utah.gov/publicat/code...4-161.htm#/T11

I didn't find anything specifically designating them illegal in Florida and they are specifically mentioned as legal on custom cars and street rods.
