I am sorry I am not sure I understand make sure your not blowing the slide open? I might be missunderstanding you. But if you blow into it and the slider raisies then your diaphram is correct. If not the slider will not move

I almost wonder if the carb can not deliver the fuel air ratio the the way engine damands, like fuel injections allows. I do greatly apprechiate your guys imput as I am stumped with this thing. I keep trying to figure out if I missed a step or something along those lines.

Looked at my old carb and I see what you are saying here

I would do what Rocketman said to begin with, lift the slide with a finger and let it drop and see that it goes down with resistance and that it moves freely.

Also, you say the emulsion tube has more holes than stock? That is the opposite of what my thunderslide kit came with. My emulsion tube only has two holes. I'm thinking that you may be getting too much air into the mix for a 175 main jet?

That surge you are talking about is most likely a lean condition, and you say it is at cruise, so the needle would be either in the last of the straight section, or slightly into the taper. You tried raising the needle (lowering the clip), did that help slightly?

Not sure your test is reliable

You cant make much PSI by blowing on it

I would still look at the diaphragm

I checked the diaphrame is all good. I have a couple emulsion tubes I have seen the ones with two holes Mine has quite a few more than two. I will change the tube hell at this point i have tried every trick i know to make it better. I will get back to ya either way.

The test for the diaphram was taught to me when i was still a garage gopher. I have used it never had a problem with with it. now these were all old heads who also pounded into my head no green motorcycles they are bad luck...lol

Okay changed the emuslion tube to a stock one I had on hand. I got curious and recheck the floats again thus finding my float was broken. I had a new float on stock replaced it put her all together. I rode the bike instant change for the better.......but if the crack the throttle hard it pops and crackles outta the exhaust. It still picks up Rpms though.

If you are running the thunderslide and the needle with clip grooves, then it may be better to run the dynojet emulsion tube. You didn't find one in your pile of parts with two holes threaded for the dynojet jets?

Anyway, if you have to run one with more holes I would bet that you will end up running a larger main jet. In my case, when I went to the thunderslide setup I ended up running a 170 main jet (have that now), and the stock was 185 if I remember correctly, with the stock emulsion tube with all the holes. As far as I know when you are running wide open, and the needle is as far out of the needle jet as it gets then the only thing affecting the size difference in the main is how much air is getting mixed in with that emulsion tube.

So you need to confirm this on your plugs. If the inside of the plugs down near where the metal wall meets the porcelain is looking super light gray (lean) that will confirm that you are too lean at WOT. It wouldn't hurt to look at the entire inner wall and see that you are not lean in the mid range either (as I suspect it may be due to the same holes in the E tube). Take a look at Plug Reading 101 in the sticky's and see what I am talking about. That will dial you in faster than anything else. You don't want to be totally guessing at this point.

Good job finding the broken float, that's a good start. Now it's just dialing this mixture in.

I don't know what to expect from that Buel engine, so I am not sure what exact baseline for jetting is appropriate, but I know for a fact that plug reading will get you there regardless where you are right now.
