Default xl883l questions (Taller Shocks)

I've got an xl883 low, it rides a bit bumpy as expected from it being a low model.

does anyone know if I can put on taller shocks and basically get the ground clearance of a standard of a custom?

Yes you can, be cautious on your next ride out as you may find some minor handling changes coming into the picture. Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Hi 09SportsterDad, welcome to the Forum.

You started your thread in the 'Forum FAQ / How To' section, which is for posts about the Forum, and how to use the forum functions, so I've moved it to the 'Suspension, Frame, Forks, … ' section.

Biggest problem of raising the rear is the front starts to feel too soft, so expect to fix the front also. Be careful on the first test ride to ensure you don't end up with a high speed wobble. Do a gentle bump on one side of the handle bars at low speeds, then speed up and repeat only if no wobble is noticed.

You probably have to loosen the drive belt to avoid binding up rear suspension travel.

Read the "7 Pages of Suspension" in the Suspension Sticky Index Section for more info.
