Default EMD Cosmetic 'Cam Cover'

EMD have supposedly been developing a Sportster cam cover, matching their ribbed primary covers, for some time now.

Now they have released this, which is a cosmetic ribbed cover that fits on the existing cam cover:

I suppose it doesn't look bad when fitted over a chopped cam cover:

But on an unchopped stock cover, it just looks fake, IMO:

.

I don't know whether this was all they were ever developing. and it was only ever going to be a cosmetic cover, or if they gave up on a proper cam cover, or even if a proper cover may yet appear?

sorry but I do not add any "cosmetic" only parts to my bike and I kindly ask all my customers (spark plug covers, head bolt covers, etc)if I can remove them off their bikes if they bring them in for me to work on them.

I certainly wouldn't buy anything like that, but some people might be interested.

I must confess to having the odd part that only serves a cosmetic purpose. The oil tank cover, for example.

I don't see anything wrong with dressing things up to taste. It's not my cup of tea but that goes for a great many things, just as my taste may not fit yours, etc.

I bet those that say that they'd NEVER have anything only for cosmetic value on their bike are fooling themselves. Do you have a paint job? Why not just clear coat bare metal?

Nothing wrong with making something look cool but it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Paint is not just cosmetic. It also protects the metal. Clear coat is paint.

And I said i do not add any parts but if the bike is designed to have a certain part such as an oil tank cover then I normally but not always leave it on. But I do remove the plastic "chrome" covers that HD puts on the rear master cylinders off my bikes.

Smoked turn signals seem kinda cosmetic only?

no they are replacement parts that do not add any weight to the bike. maybe you and I have a different defintion of what makes a cosmetic only part. To me it means a purely "cosmetic part" that is placed over an already functioning part and it adds extra weight to the bike that serves no purpose other than to dress something up.

Does that make more sense to you?

Your definition varies from most, I think. If you change the "look" of something, whether it adds weight, or not, I would consider that a cosmetic change. Painting your bike pink, after it being black for years, would be a cosmetic change. Ask kledhead.

I do have smoked turn signals, laydown plate, and darkened red taillight. I absolutely consider them cosmetic changes. But, they replaced and enhanced the look, IMO.

Now, let's talk about "superfluous" cosmetic changes like chrome covers, tassles, WG skulls, LTR/RTL crap, and such, and we're on the same page. That's just needless weight. They neither replace nor enhance.

John
