Cool Progress!

With the exception of a few bolts, I've pretty much completely disassembled the entire bike to my needs. I don't plan to split the cases for this iteration unless I find a killer deal on a lighter Buell crank, though eventually I will rebuild the bottom end or replace it with another I build.

The frame is fully stripped; I'm going to make some changes to it and powdercoat it once I get the wheels and other parts that are to be powdered at the same time.

The wiring is a hot mess; I'm not planning to use any of it. I'm going to get a Thunderheart harness with built in relays, Dyna ignition, and switch to an XB 3 phase stator and voltage regulator. I'm not going to use the S1 switch gear or throttle either, as I'm going to use some Ducati switch gear (rounder profile, all red switches) and separate throttle tube.

I did find this tasty number on eBay... 3" over.

Ross, have you decided to split the cases yet? Since the Uly is the daily driver you may as well go all out with this toy. No need for anything practical!

Actually this build is taking a completely different turn. I decided to build it for my Dad instead, so the motor wont be nearly as wild, though it will be built up, still around 100 RWHP. I'm not using the extended arm anymore either, and the paint will be some shade of green. Still working out the details with my Dad as he lives in Amarillo almost 500 miles away.

So in the next couple weeks I'm adding a 1250 kit, worked spare XB heads, open air box with K&N, and race ECM to the Uly. Then the stock Uly heads will be worked and repurposed to thus bike.

This build has been slow since I made the irrational decision a while back to hot rod the Uly, but now that the Uly is pretty much done, I need and want to get this back together. The XB heads I got for it had trashed exhaust studs, so they are at the welder's for repair, and I'll drill and install new studs once I get them back. And today, I picked up these gems for the project. Can you tell the direction I'm going with this?

Slow progress is still progress, right? My project the last few days was to go ahead and split the cases. No big bore here, but it gave me an opportunity to check all the bearings, clean the cases of the grease color they had before, and drill the cases to fit an electronic speedometer. HD switched to electronic speedos in 95, but Buell used cable driven until 99, so the boss is there on the 95-98 Buells but it isn't drilled. I did also pull 5th gear when I drilled the cases. I did have to mill about 1/8" material off the top of the boss to get the depth right for the sensor. I also went ahead and drilled and added the Zippers tappet pin kit to avoid possible lifter rotation. All bearings looked and felt great.
