Any regulator rated 20amp and + will work.

Stator not grounded, just checked with test light.

Output at 2000 rpm is only 7 volts so I think I found my problem

Got one in my garage but does not help me here.

I’ve been planning on replacing it with a newer 30 amp system, I guess this is my chance ...

I’ll agree that not difficult to replace, I’ve done way more than my share, the only difficulty comes with torquing the crankshaft nut, getting up to 240 lbs ft. Chris, thought you had already gone to the H.D. 30 amp set up, my bad.

They do but Chris’s desire is to stay with stock H.D. parts for convenience in replacement as he does serious long distance running.

Sorry for jumping in Chris, thought your plate might be full at the moment.

Yeah, I had deleted my post. Wrong time and place for that discussion.

Any H-D or After-market regulator will work. The dealer must have at least one regulator at hand. 32amp or 20 amp will work; they regulated voltage not amperage. The difference is the size of the wires.

NOTE: Chris determined the stator was only outputing 7v at 2000rpm - The regulator may be OK...

Here's the Sportsterpedia section on the Charging System:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...harging_system

The Stator Connector on the regulator for 2004-2006 is the same as for 1991-2003 - So the stator part number needed (compatible from 1991-2006) is 29967-89C...

So - Anyone in that area with a spare stator for a 1991-2006 model would be compatible to what Chris needs... Presuming his regulator is still functioning correctly...

If he also needs a regulator, the part number for a 2004-2006 unit is 74523-04, which has the right output connector to match the wire harness...
