Default bent the L/side foot peg mount

I dumped my 85 XLS taking a left turn. ordered a new mount and shifter. my issue I have at the moment is the acorn nut holding the mount will not loosen, so the whole shaft is coming out. Also broke the locator pin in case. My question is can I just pull the shaft and replace parts. Or am I removing the case. My factory service manual does not cover pegs and mounts.

Just unscrew it. Clamp it down real good in a vice and remove the acorn nut. Might wanna get a new nut, threads may be damaged.
