I had a starter relay go on the 07 nightster. It was clicking when I would try and start the bike, no other sound, just lights. replaced it and it was all good, it was like 8 bucks at the dealership.

hey guys im back im narrowing the issue, i thinks it is now somewhere between the relay siwtch and the starter, my starter is good, the wires coming from my bars are good no break in the wire, use my volt meter to make sure. so now i just have to figure out which wire is bad, any idea's on what to check? im not really good with electircal crap so any pic's would be gr8t.. thanks fellas

well if it is your solenoid then these pics can pretty much explain what you are in for. i ordered a new relay and solenoid rebuild kit off of ebay for $26 with shipping. i was hoping the new relay would fire the starter up... nope, still clicking. so i went ahead a took off my starter, opened it up and noticed the contacts were knurled. these pics were from today, i'm hoping someone can use these as some form of help. i'm halfway through this so i will post the rst of the pics tommorow.

you can click on the pics for a larger view.

starter unbolts through the primary chamber.

remove front sprocket cover and pull starter off the right side.

contacts are seriously busted.

after i rebuilt the contacts.

STAY TUNED.

i would just replace the starter relay for starters. They are only a few bucks at an autoparts store. Usually you can feel the silenoid click if it is that and not the relay. Place your hand on the starter and hit the starter button if you feel the click on the starter it is the silenoid if not its the relay.

the junk they make now days can still click but not work. they are cheaply made as a couple of post showed some photos of such.

the contacts can burn creating a resistance to current flow and corrode as some stupid put copper and iron together which are dissimilar metal and will adversely react when together. the problem can be the same in the solenoid on the starter. taiwanese ted junk!!!!
