S&s
Anyone know where I can get an S&S backing plate for a Keihin BD (butterfly) carb? Back around 1980 they ran dyno tests on an S&S air cleaner assembly on a stock shovel and picked up 5 rear wheel horses with no other change..

''assembly'' the outer cover of their air cleaner contributes quite a bit to the total effect.if you've seen one you'll know what i mean.

For an actual S&S piece you'll probably have to hit ebay. The backing plates for the Super B fit Keihin carbs. If you want to go repro, V-Twin makes one that's a pretty good copy. I'm running one and like it.

I have an S&S shorty and know what you mean....they put a lot of work into the shape of the backing plate and the cover to do what the car guys did with engines like the L-88 with a huge donut shaped assembly that straightened out the air flow....the last Mustang I built with a Flex-A-Lite SS fan pushed air over the carb so hard at idle you could not set the mixture with the air cleaner off unless you placed an 18x30 inch board in front of the carb...
I found a knock-off of the S&S and I'll probably use that with the real S&S cover after I get past Christmas...
