It would most likely be fine, but I wouldn’t do it on my bikes. Lesson learned I guess. I use a zip tie to pull chain together on the bike to determine where to cut. I triple check I’m cutting the correct link.

Any suggestions on what pin(s) are available to peen the link back in? Will any 530 standard link do the job?

well mr. g call it like you want. there are belts and there are chains, all relevant since they are NOT called the same.
the same as a MASTER ROD and an ARTICULATING ROD, both are rods, but not the same. hummm? guess you never worked on a radial?

Actually I am familiar with radial engines. But the master rod and an articulating rods is not the same, where in the chain I was referencing, every outer link is identical, and is indeed a master link.
Odd how you have to defer from the subject to try and defend your errors.
And in case you didn’t notice, it is Rev. G, not Mr.

My tool in my tool box for situations like yours is

Amazon sells em.

https://www.amazon.com/D-I-D-KM500R-.../dp/B0040PM2EI

Works on regular chains. Works on o-ring chains. You can rivet the link you took off to make too short with one of these.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/SV3-CHAIN-5...8AAOSwX~dWk~oQ

But you need a tool like I have. Hammer and drift punch on a vise may bind that spot if done wrong. But you might get lucky? The tool is a for sure fix though.
