Get the correct o-rings, see what happen to the challenger space shuttle when the used a smaller id gasket to be able the fit the bell of the joint. They just snap to get back to their nominal id.

I've got them, just not sure which ones they are.
Would be nice if the James full gasket kits came with a list of what o-ring went where, or even if they were bagged by Harley part #...

Excellent, that makes sense. Found this which really helps...

So looking at what I have I think the o-ring dimensions are:
[OD, ID, thickness]

11101 - 15/16, 3/4, 3/32
11132 - 7/8, 11/16, 3/32
11190 - 15/15, 11/16, 1/8

So that pack of 14 o-rings are all 11101. Cheers...

Hi Sifty, I'm getting an education from reading your thread. Before this I never knew that later models used O rings for pushrod tube seals instead of corks. The James gasket set has gaskets and seals to cover a range of years.

So I wondered what year would use all of the 14, 11101, 15/16 x 3/4 x 3/32 O rings that are in the set.

Looks like a 1979 kick start would use 13.
(8) used on the pushrod tubes. (4 at the tappet and 4 at the rocker cover)

(4)used on the rocker arm shafts.

(1) used for the kickstart shaft. There is also one shown for the kick start hole plug. But Can't use both at once.

( Some other years use a different O ring size at the rocker cover)

Interesting. I don't have a 79 parts manual so didn't know where else they were used. I've just got lots of spare rocker arm ones.
Cheers...

Stuck in the 'waiting for parts' stage, so not much progress, few bits and pieces arriving but I've been busy with other things as well. (I do a bit of brewing so have put a couple of beers down)...

Decided to clean the engine up a bit and give it a 'spray bomb' rebuild once the dirt and oil was off, so masked things up...

And it came out ok with some high-temp black...

I did consider taking heads off for a proper clean, but the compression tests came out really well so decided to leave things alone. Should be able to start putting things back together soon...

Wondering if this might be a common thing among IH owners. I know "Hennessee" from "The Other Forum" is a master brewer too.

Maybe they drive you to drink...

Yeah it's an interesting hobby. Grow my own hops too.

Only pulled one lifter so far but looked good.

He grows his own.

Hops Too !

Do I drink because I have IH's or do I have IH's because I drink. That is the question.
