1970s Time Capsule
https://newyork.craigslist.org/wch/m...579093786.html
Loving this old IH that just popped up on CL. Hardly all original but some nice period correct touches. Coffin tank, z bars even some magazine cred. Does seem to be more dust than rust.
If it was put away proper (and the ad isn't hiding anything) would probably fire right up after the usual resurrection ritual.
I'll try to post images, probably won't last long at $2500

That's probably a bargain for someone.

Maybe.
I live about 45minutes away from PV but frankly the bike reminds me of a partial dip into custom bike building. Nothing special (a few period custom items)and nothing that can't be reversed. My attic has several similar parts collecting dust(on the bags). The magazine article is interesting to me becuase I live within walking distance to the Bronx and yes times were a changing by that day. There were many excellent bike builders in southern westchester county some who had articles in the magazines even earlier than 76. In 1968 a guy from Yonkers,NY Alex Prylucky won 1st Place at the NY Coliseum and the same year took 1st place in A/Gas at ATCO Raceway.Sportsters of course.
Ok back on track $1800.

There's a number of reasons I suspect this might be a "good buy".
Seller seems to be truthful. Someone was interested in performance as the S&S and 2 into 1 shows Seller claims the engine was "blueprinted" meaning at the very least careful rebuilding at that time. Landing a second hand bike with a good engine is half your battle.
It would not be hard to put the bike back to "near stock" if that's what you wanted.
I can buy a 1979 any time for $1200. But the ultimate cost will far exceed the original price. And then it's "just" a '79.
