Default How do you upshift?

Newbie question - going on a year in the seat on my '05 1200 C (no tachometer) and was wondering how the more experienced handle this... upon entering the highway with little or no traffic, how do you upshift and about what speed do you shift from 4th to 5th?

Thanks for the assists!

I'm usually doing at LEAST 55 before I'm into 5th....usually more like 60-65...more if its busy on the freeway as I pull on...

You can easily exceed your local and state highway speed restrictions in 4th gear....third, if you do it right....

when I am getting on a highway,
I start cranking it up as I am entering so I will be going highway speed and able to blend into the moving traffic.
If there is no traffic as I am getting to the lane, I will really crank it up (because I like the noise it makes). Ten up into 5th at somewhere around 55 or 60 and then pull on it again to about 75-80.
Then I usually come back to earth and cruise at about 65.

I shift more by feel than by sound. You can feel when the bike is ready.... When getting on the freeway I shift at about 60 or so....

Copy that Preacher, most of my buds have louder pipes than me, I can't hear when I'm surrounded. I go by feel.

My gal will pull 5th at 50, but I pull up to 60 before shifting when matching speed on highway ramps. Like to be able to twist & scoot if I need to. Just normal accel on reg roads, usually go into 5th at 55. Like The Preacher said, mostly by feel.

Depends on traffic. If there's a lot I'll wind it up a little more to make sure I've got the juice to get out of a tight spot if needs be.
