Rocker Box Discoloration - Nightster
Alright, I know there are a ton of threads on here about rocker box water spots, but none of the answers have helped and I have pictures. I believed at first that this discoloration was caused by hard water spots, but after washing my bike the spots were made 100X worse, leading me to believe that the "engine cleaner" may have been to blame. I've tried vinegar and other calcium detergents, as well as mother's aluminum polish. The aluminum polish turned the cloth black (like its supposed to), and shined the covers up, but left the spots. Take a look at the spots below and tell me what you think. My last resort is powdercoating the heads, does anyone know what that would cost/entail? Thanks.

Have you tried .000 or finer steel wool? That stuff does wonders. I was recommended .000, but when I went to buy it all they had was .0000. Just don't use on polished or brushed stuff; chrome only. Also, I don't know if it will work for you it's just a cheap suggestion. I know it works great for boot heel marks, rust and other grime. I use Mother's also, and I've seen the steel wool get rid of a lot of stuff Mother's wont.

Powder coating is reasonable, especially if u have someone local with will do it. I had an entire exhaust done for $75.00. You could always lightly sand them (steel wool) and painted them with some engine enamel, there are a bunch of threads running around with people painting engine cases and such.
