I want to like it, but it has too much rake, the exhaust is hideous (and I am quite ok with ugly pipes) and the rear is also not ok...they should have gone with the Iron rear.

I try and stay out of there though, because every time I go in I find I have to drag myself outta there before I buy a 48!

The stock 48 is not a bad machine with suspension, tank and seat mods.
Hope these smaller machines fill a nitch.
They might do well with a turbo on as well.

I would bet donuts to dollars that you have considered putting a turbo on your lawn mower at least once.

There is a similar line of discussion on the Sporster fb page not the XLF one, in fact some of the posts seem similar as well, I wonder if somebody at the Moco is posting to generate interest in the new line.
I was at the HD dealer today and the sales guy told me he is already getting calls of people wanting to buy one, they don't come out until 2nd quarter 2014.

I think with aggressive marketing and that low price point they will sell a ton of these. I would go as far as saying that within a year or two of release they are Harley's best selling line by a long shot. A lot of people (especially younger riders) don't care that it's "even smaller than an 883" or that it's liquid cooled.

HD is a complex thing to figure out at the same time they have a rep for being outdated and over priced to some,to others because of that they are cool, most sportbikes follow a theme inline four, 17 inch wheels, full suspension, full coverage fairings, most import cruisers follow the big tires, low seat height and something of a Harley type styling.
Good or Bad rep, HD does do some things right:
Paint and Chrome
Styling, well for the most part.
Marketing to a point.
HD is not so much of the styling as it is about the supposed life style.
Personally I'm not to the whole leather and tons of patches thing but I know many who are, But I admit it works for HD.

pretty nice bike for the money! it surely will have typical cheap suspension + brakes like my 06 XL1200L, i upgraded them but the sporty is still topheavy and mine having the fork flop issues. i test rode a 13 superglide 2 months ago, good lookin as a sporty but heavier + same poor suspension + brakes, a sporty model with inverted forks and decent brakes with its lighter weight would be a welcome bike, throwing parts in a corner to upgrade after purchase always costs more, Harley LIKES that. my other bike a 2012 bonneville handles great at 440 lb dry with 865cc it goes well too priced at $7700 its hard to beat IMO[IMG] [/IMG]

Harley's best selling line is currently the FLH models with annual sales around 100k units.
THERE IS NO FRIGGIN WAY ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH these are gonna come anywhere near that in a year or two.
They'd be hard press to eclipse annual Sportster sales in the 50-70k range.

Whaaaaaat?
The Superglide 4-pot brakes are dramatically better than the 2-pot on your 06 XL. Same goes for the suspension.
Either way the smaller Bonnie is going to handle better...
...and maybe more importantly, there are plenty of Bonnie owners who upgrade the brakes and suspension too.

Hmmm I wasn't aware they were selling that many, though I guess there is a large amount of police fleet bikes too that I didn't even consider.
Perhaps they won't approach those numbers with this new line but I think they will sell more than a lot of people are giving them credit for.
