The H-D Nova protoype also did that, but I would think swapping the radiator for some high-end one would let you get away with a much smaller one.
I bet they can be made smaller with the same cooling surface when not having to meet the same price...
I also bet the after-market will come up with better coolers and shrouding pretty fast.

A few pictures of the Street 500 on display near the demo ride area in Daytona.
Taken with a cell phone, sorry for the poor quality.
Unfortunately no demo rides were available for the Street.

It sits low as expected but the 48 sitting next to it felt a little lower. The seat is very comfortable, which was a somewhat of a surprise. The riding position felt a little cramped for me (5'10") but not too bad really. It should fit most short to average height riders pretty well. I'd imagine Harley's going to offer an aftermarket low profile seat to help some rider get a bit closer to the ground. They could likely lose a little padding and not sacrifice too much comfort doing so. The bike had no gas or other fluids in it from what I could tell so it was hard to judge what it would feel like ready to roll. As it sat there dry though it felt much lighter than I expected it too. It's not bad looking in person but neither my wife or I thought it was very aesthetically pleasing. If it didn't have the Harley Davidson name on it you'd never guess it was made by the Motor Company. If say it's not quite as cheap looking as the Yamaha Bolt but it not too far behind it. The closer I looked at it the less I liked it.

People were checking it out but it was far from being the center of attention. I was getting the impression from the other people who we're checking it, it would be a good bike for someone other than themselves. As you would expect most of the people checking out the bikes on display and doing demo rides were...ah, let's say in a more mature age demographic. None of the younger people there were checking it out.

Sleeper: Thanks for the pics and report from Daytona. It's really not bad looking, and I do think there's a market for it. No way it would replace my Sporty, however.

After seeing it in person I agree with you Brian. The Sportster isn't going anywhere. It might have drawn more of a crowd if there were some more youngsters around.

I think the basics are sound, nice looking motor, tank, frame, but needs some TLC as far as details.
It's in serious need of a wire tuck all over and some of the covers need to be either removed or upgraded to look less flimsy or cheap ( air cleaner, belt guard, radiator, rear fender trim).
And the horn and it's mount look like an afterthought.
But what Harley doesn't need some upgrades, (other than a $35k CVO) that's part of the fun of owning one...it needs us.
Looks like it has a great chance to sell at that price.

I think those in the Big Twin Snob crowd who have a hard with time Sportsters don't even give the Street a thought.

They are more interested in the new Low Rider, my local dealer has one and I sat on it to try it out, it did feel comfortable I have to admit.

Still want a 750 as a second bike.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. I like the idea of a more modern engine, but the aesthetics are not quite there, IMO. I really don't like the tank, it just looks boring to me. If this bike does well, I think it'll be because of the performance. If the performance isn't exciting, I'm not sure why the kids out there would buy this over anything else. I do like the exhaust though!
