at 3000 feet asl... if the weather is good... and there are decent roads... i rode all year round... far above the weather changes more faster... so you could find yourself in winter in unpleasant situations...
ask me how i know?

Those very changing conditions are what the challenges are that makes those very rides so Memorial. Of course surviving those are a prerequisite, LOL! In the past I’ve ridden to work on dry winter roads but had to deal with 3 inches of snow to return home. A very slow ride for sure.

not yet freezing temps
a lot of wet during the night...
drying during the day if a sunny one
at 3k feet lower temps 4 - 5 Celsius
at 5k feet there is already snow either during the night than during the day
lower temps minus 1 Celsius

I had the pleasure of removing 6” of snow last night and another 3” today, not fun. Low tonight expected 5F, high tomorrow 20F, been a long long time since we’ve had this much winter this early in November. Bad omen?

Everything I've read says to hold onto your britches for this coming winter.

Till the eighties even in the Po valley we were used to face winters like that...
Some times also when kid... we found ourselves for a few days without electric power because the snow had crushed the trellis..
since then we had mild winters though...
to face harsh ones you have to climb over 4k feet
