1972 xlh seat question

So I have been kicking around the idea of trying to modify a 1979 xl seat onto my 72. There aren’t many aftermarket seats that look good for our older bikes. So my question is does anyone have any experience fitting a 79 seat onto a 72? I know the oldest sportster seat that saddleman makes is for a 79 so before I drop almost 500 on a seat can anyone help me out? Thanks

So it won't be a bolt on.(I think, if I'm reading these notes right that would be a continued change) We are going to try to switch from a king queen to a solo springed seat thus winter. Without drilling or welding I think my only option is to paint a peice if angle as a place to put the springs too (which will also raise it up to where it naturally seems to want to be)

I'm sure one if these cats knows about your issue (my Jammer frame and aftermarket seat may be a different story) they should see ypur thread soon enough. If you could document the proceedure i'd be obliged.

Also, letting people know your fab skillset may help (can you weld, is there a non structural place drilling may be an option, if so do you have a drill beefy enough to go through said place)

my pops has a bad habit if buying before confirming fit, we got pipes, headlamp holder, the seat mentioned above, just to name a few; it's very good your doing your research first: The patience will pay off

Yea hopefully someone has done it that can give me a little bit of help on the amount of work that would have to be done. My skill set is pretty much anything as long as it doesn’t require an lath, simply because that is one thing I don’t have but could get one if necessary. If I can’t find anyone with experience doing it I will definitely document and make a post showing how to do so because I have searched far and wide and can’t seem to find any documentation on this process.
