Default Evolution Ironhead

One of my local dealers has an "Evo Iron" for sale. Demo with 323 miles on it.

I have basically never paid any attention to Evo's. I have no real interest in them. We did have races for them at one time. But when they restrict everyone to riding one brand/model you know your just playing the the kids. The meaning is they can't compete in open competition.

But just realized looking at this one that is has decals that are clearly a direct copy of the 75 Sportster.

If your going to pretend, why not just buy a Yamaha Virago and be done with it ?

I just find the whole thing offensive.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Set of tank decals and hey presto, a whole new model. The Evos are good bikes. The Evo Sporties have the rep of being the most reliable and long lived motor Harley ever made. But yeah, something about buying "authenticity" that rankles, for sure.

Are Harley afraid they can't stand on their own ?

They need the association and the reflected glory ?

It's a business, not a philosophy or political party.
The purpose is to make money.

That is a fact. No argument.

It is also my right to state when I find certain "marketing" offensive

A while back a guy was selling fake kickers for Evo's that you bolted on! Made it look like you had a kick start Sportster. What a crock! That's like putting a potato in your Speedo on the beach to impress the girls. I like all kinds of motorcycles but much prefer the authentic versions, not the tarted up phonies.

Absolutely.

And it's a marketing ploy. I understand that.

But if they made a "Pedophile Special" or a "KKK" special edition would that not offend some people ? What about the "Nazi Waffen SS", Battle Version special edition ?

I know these are exaggerations but sometimes you need to magnify things to see what they are.

Millennials will not understand the "Iron" reference nor the 1975 decals. Will this marketing ploy trigger some emotion in me ? Yes, just not the one they really want.

Close but no cigar.

I figure it is a free country. Offend away. Need broad shoulders and thick skin though.

Now that's truly offensive.

Who would nobble a Harley with a sidecar ?
