I have both an open face and a fullface. I voted open face since I use this most often. Basically, I wear the open face around town because it is cooler and I have much better peripheral vision with the open face helmet.

I use the fullface on longer rides for safety and comfort reasons.

Cheers,

Brett

I should probably wear my leathers at all times, too, but I don't in warmer weather. In fact, there's nothing better than an evening ride in the summer in a tank top to cool you off. Am I an idiot or just taking a calculated risk?

It's all about the risk with which YOU are comfortable.

I prefer open helmets.

But I ALWAYS wear gear...

You ever try a mesh jacket with body armor.

More comfortable than a tank top or t-shirt in the sun (it reflects some heat), but offers comparable crash protection for street riding as a decent textile or leather jacket!

Jenn didn't like the color of the chick version, so she bought a small men's Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket (Harley sells it in white for Women now).

It's a mesh jacket with body armor, with a waterproof inner liner and a windproof outer liner. Sorta a 3-in-1 thing. Very cool.

Hey Kev,

what brand of Mesh jacket do you have?

I have a First Gear one which is okay, but no lining for colder mornings. I also have a Joe Rocket Ballistic textile, which I really like. It has a liner for the chilly mornings, then in the afternoon, I can take out the lining, open the vents, and it's comortable up to temps in the high 70's or low 80's.

I voted skull cap because it is the one I use most, but I have all but a 3/4 helmet and I use them all depending on conditions. Really want to try and buy a 3/4 helmet.

I actually don't currently have Mesh, cause I have 2 Aerostich Darien's I've been using, for over a decade. If I open the vents it's ALMOST as good as mesh (I have tried a mesh jacket). I just have a problem buying a FOURTH motorcycle jacket when I pretty much just wear one of my 3 now.

Jenn however has a Joe Rocket Alter Ego - that's the one I was describing. Inner liner is water proof, outer liner is windproof and the middle layer (shell) is the mesh with all the body armor. Jenn loves it, even in temps into the 90s. Much hotter than that, it doesn't probably matter, nothing is gonna be "comfortable" not a T-shirt or a mesh jacket.

My 7 y/o daughter just got a new Joe Rocket Cleo jacket, it is mesh with body armor and a liner.

Kev

I have a First gear MeshTex II with a removeable liner and armor. The jacket is very comfortable and breaths well even with the liner in. I think I paid like $200 for it but I only use it when I am on the crotch rocket. I have a Harley Davidson mesh which also has armor and air vents too. The Harley jacket is much heavier and better suited to the cold weather. I love the First gear jacket and it is very easy to clean as well....

Riding in California offers a number of advantages. Come back east and I'm sure we can find some bugs that would love to crawl in that extender. I went riding on the crotch rocket one day and had my visor up at a stop. When I took off I flipped it down only to see a very good size wasp over my left eye. Lucky for me I got the visor up and blew it out before the wasp got pissed........ Around here you better have peel-offs, a windshield and some very good eye wear......

I like that cherry red Hugger, very nice indeed.....

Hey y'all:

Rode to Alabama and back from south arkansas in a skid lid. Did wear ear plugs for the wind noise and goggles too, even though I use a windshield. I like it because it's cooler. Used a full face in El Paso years ago, too hot in the summertime!
