Was riding my original 1200, totaled out. Granted, this was on 95 in fl, and anyone can tell you its a miserable drive. I met a few people who fit your description at the hospital and therapy afterwards. Low speed collisions with sub par head protection. You can get in just as bad an accident on the way to your corner grocery store as you can on an all day run. I just prefer to better my chances of surviving the inevitable idiot not looking out for you.

And honestly, probably gonna get some hate for this, but I disagree with the no helmet law states. I think it should be as mandatory as your seatbelt. Just my opinion ho, not attacking anyone.

Anything's possible..like I said better to error on the side of caution, same have bad luck, some ride for decades without incident

As far as manditory helmet laws..you are free to express those opinions, but like anything these days, it's too much big brother telling people in a free country what to do and not what to do..Let Those Who Ride Decide, that's what a free country is about, anyways it's all subjective, just ride safe, ride smart, ride along time!!

Gary Busey who fought long and hard against mandatory helmet laws has a different perspective on things now.

Quote:
"I want people to understand that life is very important. And that if you're riding a motorcycle, skateboard, or bicycle without a helmet, you're challenging the face of death."

Riding without a helmet is a gamble everyone is bound to lose, sooner or later, he says. "When the odds finally catch up with you, fate will steal your life and the hearts of everyone who loves you."

Busey had just picked up his bike at a repair shop when he slid on a patch of gravel at 40 mph, flipped over the handlebars, and hit his unprotected head on a curb.

"I landed at the feet of a police officer and was rushed to an emergency room with a hole in my head the size of a half dollar," he says.

I guess sliding into a curb at 40MPH head first tends to change your views..

I voted 1/2 because that's mostly what I wear. I also wear a 3/4 if I think it might rain or it's cold. I don't think big brother has the right to make me wear a helmet, that said, I would still wear a helmet without being told to do so.

Girl got killed in my hometown in the 60's...........sitting on the back of a small bike.........not moving.........got hit......bike fell.....she hit head on curb.........Killed her.
Maybe if she'd been wearing a helmet...................she'd be 65 or so today with a family!

Currently wear a 3/4 open face. Just the style that appeals to me, and what me and my dad had when I was a kid so ole nostalgia playing a role. Getting colder now, I'd appreciate a new full face lol.

Multi-billion dollar hospital corporations are the #1 lobbyist for helmet and seatbelt laws. They need your injured body to make their billions. Cant make a dime off dead riders. Undertaker don't give sheet , gona get you sooner or later.

Your logic seems to be that a head injuries means instant death and that way the undertaker, instead of a "multi-billion dollar hospital corporation" makes money. Unfortunately there are flaws in your logic.

Some people, in their attempt to prove a helmet isn't needed, post their head 'never hit the ground' during an accident/crash. And that is believable because some people also beat the odds and win lotteries.

For some riders, the lucky ones, crashing and receiving a head injury means their head pops like a grape under a boot. But, considering the odds of where and with how much force a rider's head receives damage, it is far more likely that a rider will 'merely' incur brain damage as the result of a head injury.

If hospitals are happy to receive patients with broken bones, internal injuries, or road rash they are ecstatic to receive a brain damaged patient. Trust me, the money hospitals make from such patients is astronomical.

Of course the patient, depending on the severity of the injury, support of family, educational background which may allow a return to a somewhat 'normal' life, etc., may be screwed. But that may not matter, depending on the rider's priorities, goals, or expectations of their future life/possibilities.

Don't plan on a head injury as meaning your life/problems are over. Your life may go on and your problems may just be beginning.

Full face for me. I gutted a bird with my face shield once. It stank like Hell but at least I didn't have to digest it.

I'm surprised you didn't get any gut spray through the vents. I've gotten full on bug gut spray through them from time to time when the sucker was big enough and hit just right.
