I guess we'll find out if these kids can make or break a company like numerous generations of the real Harleys did or if they lose interest as quickly as everything else they do. My guess is it's a passing fad.
And yes boring for those that think speed is everything. I'd rather watch my grass grow.

Not a passing fad in Germany mate, they are apparently banning sales of all petrol and diesels cars from 2030. Other countries are bound to follow.
Not sure how bikes will be affected though.
But, i'll bet sales of new cars in Germany will go through the roof in 2028/29!

Actually I am waiting to see what the official performance is once they are launched. If it looks like I can do a Saddle Sore 1,000 (1,000 miles in 24 hours) I will speak to the owner of my local dealer to see if I can get my hands on one to do the first one on an electric Harley. The numbers are pretty close now, just need to either add about 20 miles to the range or bring the recharge time down just a bit.

While my comment was sorta tongue-in-cheek, if you watch those videos (linked above), you notice that there is very little sound produced ahead of the bike...

I can image walkers & bicyclists being surprised by an electric blur whizzing by them before they even know the bike is coming... Will animals notice them more or less than the current bikes???

How about in town - Will pedestrians hear them?

Most other bikes are almost as quiet.

However, I do recall reading somewhere that when electric bikes first started doing the Pikes Peak hill climb they were required to install sirens or something on them so they made noise to prevent spectators from walking out on the road because they could not hear them coming.

But I may have dreamed that ...

Lots of good points in the thread.
I have been working in the electronics/electrical/electromechanical field since 92. My Boys never did see the joy of modification of the Jeep or any other vehicle. No curiousness of the inner workings of a can opener. Don’t want to know how or why to adjust the antenna on the TV.
I believe that this Harley is the perfect Motorcycle for the current and future generations of Participation trophy and hands off kiddos.
As battery tech improves, life and charging I really believe that the electric motorcycle will take over and all of us old oil burners will just be a passing fad.

Parrothead if you are near Philly the Livewire Demo truck is at King of Prussia mall this weekend.

I just ran up there today with the 3 kids that ride and took a couple of turns on the demo bikes.

Their acceleration is just insane, and I used to ride 900 and 1100 cc sport bikes.

They are really fun to ride. If I had a spare $30K I'd pick one up as a commuter.

But I don't think you will get a saddle sore in 24 hrs. At highway speed you get a range of about 70 miles. 80% charge from a DC fast charger in 40 minutes. That would give you about 56 miles range on the highway. Full charge in about an hour. So IF you could plan a route with perfectly spaced high speed DC chargers you could ride for 48 minutes, charge for 40 minutes I can't see how you could get much more than 900 miles in 24 hrs. That's with perfectly spaced chargers.

I think you would be doing real good to get 600 or 700 miles in 24 hrs.

Is there a schedule of where and when the demo truck is? Closer to CT perhaps? I have been planning to be a fan of this bike....lol
It’s going to have to really be something for me to drop $30K tho..

Don’t mean to hijack here, but anyone ever try an electric dirt bike? My research led me there a while back..

imho it is an amazing bike
like other electric vehicles...

she is powerful
she is fast
she is all... but cheap

ergo... if you want that people would buy an electric bike... you have to sell her cheaper... absorbing most of the production costs... otherwise she will be only an expensive toy for whealty people who can afford also that kind of things (amongst other)

that said i think that all the tech gadgets she have (touch screen display, Tc, precanned maps, abs cornering, etc, etc.) deserve to be in common on all hd models... since they (at least in EU) aren't cheap either and also have to face aggressive competitors with high tech bikes...

we all know that iconic and expensive bikes with a powerful low grunt deserve at least a current TC device for the price they are selling them
