Default Idle speed

I was reading through my clymer manual tonight and noticed something I think is odd. For idle speed every year listed from 1986-2003 has the correct idle speed somewhere between 950-1050. Except for 1995 us models, which it says 1650-1950! There is also a listing for 1995 HDI models, which is back down @ 1000-1050. It just does not seem right idling that high. Can anyone shed some light on this subject for me? It’s not a big concern, I would just like to have the knowledge.

well, i cannot see your book but there could be confusion between base idle and high idle for ign timing.
base idle @ 30* voes on and 7.5* voes off 950>1050rpm
fast idle @40* voes on and 16* voes off 1750 rpm.
to set fast idle engine is held at 1650>1950 rpm to assure module is at full adv.
street level rpm is still 950>1050 rpm using stock cams. a long duration cam needs more rpm to idle correctly.

The truth be know those 1995’s had the “unobtanium “ kanuzit valves, a one year experiment, the penny counters got involved and put an end to that!

Most info can be gotten from the historians at the MoCo, don’t believe there are any NOS still availible. Might try E-Bay or Amazon?

I suspect that someone spilled 'Clymergoop' on his manual...

I hear that stuff is nasty - changes words unexpectedly & numbers get twisted 'round, too...

I think if you wipe it down with FSM, it probably will help...

Well - May not be the prettiest... but...

Now & then, even the FSM is not 100% accurate...

hummm cheap enough but:
that book is from kentucky and meant for whiskey fueled machines, pretty sure he would need to re-jet.
