Big Baazzoo sorry to read that you are having engine breather issues. In some ways the old style cam chest breather was better than what came after it.
Here are few suggestions:

i. Gary E makes a good point about the engine wet-sumping when the engine has been standing. Inspect the oil check valve to confirm it is sealing correctly
- if it doesn't you get wet-sumping when the engine is standing: see part 33116-86 etc. If so install install new a adapter, ball and spring.
Having said that my engine breather does not puke oil even when it has wet sumped.

ii. A potentially more serious issue is to check that your oil pressure release plunger and spring are working as they should and the spring tension is still OK.
This will bleed excess oil pressure off into the cam chest when the engine is running - which is not good if to opens too early: parts 26001-86 & 26002-86.

iii. Test the breather non-return umbrella valve by gently blowing down the breather pipe - you should have resistance. If the umbrella valve has died
you may find a replacement hard to come by as it has long since not been available. This will result in more oil being blown out of the breather and
possibly more crankcase compression. There are number of after market options for non return valves. Some are even well engineered!

iv. If everything shows up fine, you may now want to test the compression and blow by with a leak down test. Excess blow by can pressurise the cases more.

v. Finally check that a PO hasn't done some funky shit with your oil and tank breather hoses; sadly it happens!

Hope that helps.

Where is the "non-return umbrella valve" located? I didn't locate it in the parts catalog.

Under the cam chest casing where the breather hose fits.
26856-82 UMBRELLA CHECK VALVE in the 'oil tank' section.

Got it. Thanks. It was on a different parts page than I expected.

Let us know if you find one!

I fitted an ET PCV valve instead. It works well but they don't exactly give them away.
