Try to stick with a filter that has a top bypass (Napa/Wix 7148) as opposed to a filter with a bottom bypass.
Top bypass flows across the top
Bottom bypass opens on the bottom and you flush all the crud (if any) right off the media and into the center of the filter right into the engine.

I just use the OEM Harley Black Filter. Do you know which one that has?

Update:

Everything has been going great so far on the bike! Have almost 400 miles on the engine.

Today I ended up replacing the battery, not too bad though since it had been about 3 years since it was replaced.

At the same time I changed the clutch Spring Plate to the 1200 one instead of the 883. At the same time I also replaced the Damper plate/gernade plate with a new one. I know some people will think that's stupid but I still have the original clutch and I don't beat on my bike so it was fine by me to just pop in a new one for $30.

I wanted to change the front sprocket to the 1200 gearing as well but there's just no way I will be able to loosen the front sprocket nut until I can get a friend to help me out with that.

I just feel that the bike won't be stable enough with me trying to use a breaker bar/cheater pipe. Unfortunately I don't have an impact right now.

Does anyone have any experience swapping out the crankshaft sprocket from a 34T to a 38T? I have all the parts including the longer chain but in the manual it says the sprocket needs to be pressed out of the rotor. I can take it to the machine shop and have them swap sprockets on the rotor but was just curious.

Check with AutoZone and see if they have an impact gun in their free loaner tool supply. You just give them a deposit, borrow the tool and return it when done. The deposit is only required in case someone doesn’t return a tool, in which case AZ will charge their card for the price of the tool.

If memory serves it states on the front sprocket "DO NOT USE IMPACT TOOLS", or words to that effect.

Since when we, men read the instruction.

I agree not to over tight the nut with an impact but I've seen more harm done with breaker bar trying to unfreeze these nut full of red loctite without heating it first. IMO

So far I have about 2500 miles on the new top end and all seems to be going well. Going to swap to the 1200 gearing this weekend and just wanted to thank everyone again for all of the help!!
