Default which exhaust for my build - RB Racing or SuperTrapp?

UPDATE - 2/17/2020 - 22 discs on the supertrapp and ended up using a closed end cap. more quiet than i would like, but 110 hp and 90 tq, so i won't complain. I now have supertrapp tuneable disc 2:1 pipes on my street glide and sportster. I dont think you can go wrong with that pipe.

RB Racing LSR EVO PRO STOCK SPORTSTER 2-1 $745 plus shipping or
Super Trapp 2:1 SuperMegs $100 or Paughco straight pipes?

I am hoping to build a 100hp/85tq sportster. its a 2003 xl1200. I can get a used, but good supertrapp for $100, or buy a new RB Racing 2:1 for a lot more.

Anyone have any opinions on whether the RB is worth the extra +/-$700?

Will i feel a difference with either pipe?

I think i will like the sound of the RB better, but if they perform the same, $700 is $700. The guy selling the SuperTrapp said he took it off and put on straight pipes for better sound and barely felt a difference in performance, but everywhere I read that the 2:1 is better and you will feel the difference.

Would love experienced feedback on this matter.

Hammer has done dynotuning on different pipes. I don't see the rb racing one but they did test my supermeg. Click on the link of the pipe to see the Dyno results for it
http://www.hammerperf.com/ttxlexhaus...trappmegaphone

I had v&h straight shots before and a thunder header before my Supertrapp and the 2-1 did feel more powerful than the straightshots did. The straightshots without the baffles are pretty much drag pipes

I have a supertrap and like it a lot. It performs great. Its not as loud as some and that's one of the things I like about it. I'm using 25 disc with the comp end cap. I've had several exhaust systems and the supertrap is the best one out of the bunch. I don't intend to run any thing else. Just my opinion.

I think you just might enjoy the tunability of the disc’s on the SuperTrapp. And you absolutelycan’t go wrong on that one for $100.00. Do note that you can scrape the end of your muffler with these. Mine actually ground down into the disc’s themselves. I went to my local muffler shop and had a small uptilt adaptor fabricatedto add between the collector and muffler, no more problem. Had one additional problem with the mounting bracket fracturing from movement out at the end of the muffler. I was able to add a small piece of barstock off the large sockethead bolt at the back of the sprocket cover down to the muffler support, tightened things up nicely.
I have the “Super Meg” on my 2006”R”, the “rigid” SuperTrapp on my 2004”R” and a Hooker 2:1 on my 2000.

I've never formally tested an RB. Someone sent me an LSR for testing once, but it was for an 86-03 model and it wouldn't hang on our test bike (a 2007), there was a frame rail in the way.

However, I've had a number of bikes equipped with RB's on the dyno over the past two decades. I haven't been impressed with any of them. Very poor diffusion, a torque curve that was strong over a narrow range and died on either side of it. You see that a lot in poorly designed pipes. A well designed pipe has a flat or broad parabolic shaped torque curve, pulling over a wide range.

Don't believe the hype. Everyone claims their pipe is a good performer. Few pipes actually are. These companies for the most part don't put any engineering effort into performance, which is why you don't see them publish performance data. It's all about looks and sound. That's what sells pipes, and they know it.

Here, let me show a classic example ...

We had a customer who bought our 100+hp conversion package. He only got 94hp. This isn't even our result, this is from him.

Anyway, he contacted us for ideas. His exhaust choice was a $900+ performance exhaust, one that's claimed to be "ultra high performance drag race exhaust systems developed by the R&D team at the Vance & Hines race shop in Indianapolis". Yeah, okay.

We told him we thought it was his exhaust, which trust me, is not what he wanted to hear after spending that kind of money on it. But he went out and bought a $350 exhaust on our advice (unfortunately this exhaust is no longer available). He then took it back to the dyno and got 106hp as you can see. Literally 12 more hp than the expensive "ultra high performance" pipe.

I got more examples, too. Check out the RSD Tracker and Slant pipes as well, just to name a couple of particularly egregious examples.

Don't ever believe the hype. If you don't have hard data, don't trust it.
