Engine knock
2001 Sportster Hammer 1250 kit with impact head service and Andrews N4 cams, Dyntek ignition. started with 1250 kit added cams and impact head work a couple years latter. had an issue with the wrong cam cover gasket which fit but wrong year started the bike tried to run a little thinking new start up oil needed to circulate. stop bike Hammer called the next day said they sent wrong gasket. I replaced and since engine knocking, don't believe its rod knock no up-down a little side to side. any suggestions Thanks, any way to upload a video/sound clip?

Have you been in touch with Hammer? They are excellent technicians and are very helpful...

Hi Samson4651$, welcome to the Forum.
You started your thread in the 'Forum FAQ / How To' section, which is for posts about the Forum, and how to use the forum functions, so I've moved it to the 'Sportster General Discussion and Problems ' section.

Your lifters are suspect if the "wrong" gasket kept them from getting oil.

Did you relieve pressure on the cams when you removed the cam cover?

How loud the knock, if very loud, check cams placement, if only a tick, your rocker shafts. They are simple engine.

If you have the wrong cover gasket, one of the oil galleries could have been blocked, starving whatever it feeds of oil. Not good.

A mechanics stethoscope are cheap and will help you pin where the knock is coming from.
