There's a pressed in bushing in the bottom of the fork tube that the (tapered) stop enters as the forks approach bottoming, drastically slowing but not stopping oil flow. Oil is trapped effectively creating a hydraulic lock preventing the fork tube from bottoming in the slider.

Since the "stop" is held tight to the Damper, and the damper is held Rigid in the lower leg...By the Bolt...I do Not get this...
I see No Way to keep the Fork tubes from Contacting the bottom inner of the Lowers...
In awhile...I will attempt to put a "stop" into the bottom of a tube..... Got me curious now...

The stop creates a hydraulic lock keeping the fork tube from bottoming out in the lower leg (slider). By bottoming out I'm referring to metal to metal contact. If you take a fork assy (oil but no springs or cap) and try to bottom it like you're checking the oil level you'll feel where the stop starts having an effect as you get close to bottoming the fork. You can bottom the fork (metal to metal) but it takes a hard push and it's SLOW as the oil SLOWLY escapes from under the tube. You'll also find it takes some effort to extend the fork after you've got it fully bottomed. Many road racers disable the bottoming stop because of this. I have Ohlins forks on my R9T. There's an Ohlins bulletin about disabling the bottoming stop when using the forks on a road race bike.
