Kehin carb spray nozzle
Hey thanks everyone for the previous help I got my 73 starting and idling but it’s still pretty high and can’t really dial it in without it stalling, unless I’m just being inpatient but it seems to me that the accelerator spray nozzle is turned to the center of the rear cylinder ( I’ve read that if it is then the vacuum of air should evenly send the fuel into both cylinders) but I wanna say it should be clocked into the center of the intake, the carbs an 82 Kevin butterfly and the bikes a 73 xlch 1000, any knowledge on this nozzle would be greatly appreciated I can’t find 100% answers on it

You can pull the bowl off and twist the accelerator pump nozzle whist you will.

Two separate problems.
The accel pump really only comes into play when you open the throttle "quickly". It helps with the lean transition that occurs when you open the throttle. Won't really affect your idle.
You need to be sure your bike is idling on just the idle circuit. Setting the idle speed too high to start with can put you on the inter circuit.
You need to be sure that the butterfly is fully closed before trying to set the idle. Back the throttle stop screw off until your sure that's happening.
Adjust the idle, then if it's too slow, increase it by using the throttle stop screw.
Now go back and repeat this procedure.
Of course, this is only my opinion and I could be wrong. Again.

Oh, forgot to discuss the nozzle direction.
A couple of schools of thought here.
I believe, due to the arrhythmic nature of our poor 45 degree twins that the front cylinder in fact gets less "charge" than the rear cylinder. The fact that the front generally runs hotter than the rear despite the rear being shrouded by the front cylinder may support that idea.
So if not in the middle, towards the front cylinder.
But you should also realise that air flow in the port is fastest in the center, where the flow is also more turbulent. . As this is raw fuel the better the customization the better the result.
In practice I've found if it's REALLY far out. like aimed at the wall of the port it's nowhere near as effective.
Of course, once again, this is only my opinion and I could be wrong.

On the 82 Keihin the accelerator pump just sprays onto the throttle plate. Don't worry about it.
Make sure you don't have any intake leaks, then read this sticky: http://xlforum.net/forums/showthread.php?t=71361
Edit: The 82 is a screwy carb in my experience. Don't be surprised if you have to go up multiple jet sizes to hit the sweet spot on the idle mixture screw.
